Care Pods – case study
We were approached by our client with a requirement for a stand alone accommodation unit that would be suitable for their disabled son to be able to live independantly but close to his family for support when required.
The building had to be designed around many aspects of the clients needs and be able to be installed in the clients existing garden. The Care pod also had to be relocatable should they decide to move in the future.
From initial meeting to discuss the clients requirements we designed a building to meet all their needs and expectations. We produced plans and submitted a planning application on their behalf.
The actual building delivered had many features including a accessable shower room, toilet and hand basin, kitchen with accessible appliances, double bedroom with sliding door to allow wheelchair access, lounge area with double sliding doors to decking area. The care pod interia was specified with a voice control system to allow the easy operation of blinds, heating conttol, media operation and lighting. Mood lighting was made available and is activated by voice control. Outside the building was cedar clad to blend in with the woodland garden, it has a extra wide front door with access ramp. and decking around the building allowing the enjoyment of the garden.
We designed the building to have accessable light switches, power sockets and door locks in fact every detail was looked at to ensure that the Care Pod met the clients needs in every way possible. On completion the building was handed over to the client with full training in the use of the systems installed.

Carepods are designed as a modular system of interlocking units that are pre-fabricated in a controlled environment, then transported to site for assembly This avoids the risk of on-site delays and damage from rain and frost, which can occur with traditional on-site construction The modular route is flexible, fast, cost-effective and high-quality
Carepods are built with innovative, eco-friendly materials and components – like electric underfloor heating – that deliver energy efficiency, low running costs and comfortable living Wall, floor and roof sections utilise composite Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) for rigidity, strength and thermal efficiency All external windows and doors – including panoramic bi-folds, where specified – conform
